Author Interview: STEPHANI HECHT

STEPHANI HECHT: Swords, Sex and Sock Monkeys

Author Interview by AJ Llewellyn

1. Stephani, thanks so much for dropping by today. The Dark Diva Reviewers are excited to have you in da house! You have the wonderful, best selling Archangel series out with eXtasy Books. Congratulations on the new release of Hell's Angel which came out this week. Where did the inspiration come from to write these stories and how many books will be in the series?
LOL Now that is the question of the year. Every time I think I’m done, another character pops into my head and starts talking to me. The inspiration to write these stories started much the same way. The hero from Angel Warriors came to me and Abdiel refused to leave me alone until I wrote his story.

2. Don’t you find muses can be really bossy? I must say, your insistence that I be the cover model on Angel Warriors was inspired, don’tcha think? I don’t look too bad, do I? I mean, actually, I look freakin’ HOT! I’d do me. Would you do me?
Honey, I would do you any day of the week and then twice on the weekends! As for using you on the cover, what do you expect when you go around posing with nothing but a sword to cover your nakedness?

3. I know, I know. I’m a bit of a show off, aren’t I? You say in your bio that your mom and aunts were devoted romance novel readers. Were you? And what were the ones you enjoyed reading?
I have always been a devoted reader. My first romances were the ones that I snuck out of my mother’s room. I skipped to the naughty parts, those were always my favorite parts.

4. Come on, fess up, how naughty were her books? Story of O naughty?
They were your typical seventies and eighties romances, lots of cleavage and flowing hair on the covers. There wasn’t nearly enough sex in them and most of it was prose as purple as Barney the Dinosaur.

5. What’s your favorite purple prose expression?
There are so many to choose from. How to pick just one? I must go with her portal to ecstasy. That one is just plain bad.

5. I invented that one. How dare you! LOL…I know you did extensive research on swords and sword play for the Archangel series. How much of it were you able to use in the book and how much more can we expect to see in upcoming books?
I researched for four years before I started the first Archangel Book. I have books on angels and weapons all over the house, plus I studied them extensively on the Internet. When I use them in my books, I try not to overload the reader with useless information about them, however. The last thing I want is to bore people because my books read like a textbook. I need to save that precious word count for hot sex.

6. Speaking of hot sex…some of your scenes, woah, baby! Hubba Hubba. You watch a lot of gay porn, My Stephani?
No, I haven’t. I think it’s time I started though. What was the name of that gay porn star? I think I may go rent one of his movies this weekend.

7. I am building up to the tough questions here cookie, so hang on to your sunglasses. What was your favorite toy growing up?
I stole this raggedy old sock monkey from my cousin. I named the ugly thing, Sally and dragged it everywhere with me.

8. You stole things??? Does the bank where you work know about this? And what happened to Sally? Did your cousin ever figure out you’d stolen her?
Yes, my cousin knew and she never let me live it down. As for the bank, I think they are all still getting over the fact that one of their tellers writes naughty stories. I better not tell them I’m a monkey thief too, it may throw them over the edge.

7. What’s your favorite sexual position in life? I’ve read your books *blushing* so I know anything goes there, cookie…but are you a goer (to use Monty Python parlance)??
I like to do it hanging upside down from the monkey bars. Nothing is better than hot, dirty monkey sex.

8. Mmm…monkeys. I see a connection here. Is your husband very hairy?? Do you ever ask him to spank you?
Only when I’ve been a very, very naughty girl. *evil snicker*

9. Let me guess…that’s often? So let me ask you…what is your writing routine like? I know you’re juggling a husband, kids and a full time job and an ugly cat (more about him later) so when do you find time to write?
I write all weekend and every weeknight from ten until two in the morning. My house is so loud that it sounds like Armageddon at times. The kids are yelling at each other, the ugly cat is meowing, the dog is fighting with a raccoon and my husband has sports blaring. Not exactly an environment that promotes creativity. So I invested in a good Mp3 player and I listen to music while I write. Nickelback and Rob Zombie do wonders for drowning out noise.

10. Love Rob Zombie! Now, why do you say your cat is the ugliest one in the world and can you prove this libelous allegation?
My cat has almost no hair, her whiskers are tangled, she is bowed legged, and she has huge eyes. To top it off, she has bad breath and is bossy as hell. I love her to pieces, despite all that.

11. She sounds...charming. Tell me a little about your upcoming holiday releases, Blood Lust and Blood and Holly. You like blood, huh? Christmas must sure be fun at the Hecht House! Is this a new vampire series you’re starting?
Yes, I am starting a new vampire series and I’m really excited about it. It centers around three vampire brothers who are trying to rebuild their lives, after they spent ten years in prison for a crime they did not commit. I am really stretching my boundaries and writing things I’ve never tried before. The Christmas story, Blood and Holly is going to be the first time I write M/M/F.

12. Did you do a lot of er…hands on research to write the M/M/F book? Come on, tell Uncle AJ. Your secret is safe with me…and millions of people out there reading this!
Why are you volunteering? LOL. I can’t tell you all of my secrets. Aren’t writers supposed to be mysterious?

13. Does your DH read your books and what does he think of them? Does he fancy monkeys too?
My DH loves monkeys although he has never gone to the extremes of stealing one of them. He does read my books, but for some reason the dirty parts are his favorites.
