Author Spotlight: Christopher Newman

Today's author in the spotlight is Christopher Newman and his new release, The Curse of Albrecht Manor, with Dark Roast Press.

Author Bio:

Me? You really want to know about me? Well sit back and ignore the cold gusts of wind outside, the creaking of the house's shutters, and that mournful howl in the background.... Born in December 1960, I was brought into this world by two loving and creative parents. What they unleashed upon the readers of this plane, they never suspected. I spent study halls writing horror and occult stories and reading Robert E. Howard. In 1980 I discovered Dungeons & Dragons and the knack for writing complex storylines, vivid characters, and terrible villains. My soul-mate Diane pushed me into writing in 2003 and I wove three impossibly long sword-and-sorcery epics. Dismayed by the lack of interest in my work I combined two lifelong loves, erotica and horror (of course I'm not the first to do it..don't be a silly mortal). I penned "The Truth About Vampires", it's sequel "Rites of the Vampire Cult", "Ghost Lover", "Love Spell", and "Nymp-omania" for the Sizzler Editions of Renaissance Ebooks. Sinking my teeth into much more tasty fare I've been writing the Ravenswood Adventures, "A Terrible Tryst of Fate", and my zombie epic "Uprising" for the wonderful mortals at Dark Roast Press. ...now that you know about me, take some time to pull up your fang-proof collar and prepare your sanity.

The women of the Albrecht family are cursed! For nearly three hundred years the hex uttered by a witch being burnt at the stake has stalked them down the centuries. Priests, herbal women, and even Inquisitors have been brought in to stop it from driving the Albrecht daughters to sexual-induced madness on their twentieth birthday. Nothing has worked; not even an uprooting from their native Germany to America has stopped it. Soon it just became an unfortunate fact of life if you are a female Albrecht.

It is present-day and Baron Markus Albrecht nervously awaits his daughter Elsa’s twentieth birthday. For a year he has searched for someone willing and able to halt the hex from driving his daughter as insanely mad as his sister, Franziska. Four days before her birthday he finds Noah Ravenswood, a practicing wizard and learned occultist. Noah, armed with hereditary mystical training by his mother, and Doctor Sarah Bookings his associate, he travels to southern Ohio to do battle with the Albrecht Curse.

But who or what is Noah really fighting? Is it truly a hex or perhaps a power-play by one of the Albrecht sons? Could it be the angry and distrustful Maximilan Albrecht, the eldest son and inheritor of the vast Albrecht Estates? Could it be the playboy Hans Albrecht, trying to dethrone his older brother and wrest control for himself? Can Noah and Sarah unravel the mystery before they become embroiled in the family politics, carnal activities, and deadly games at Albrecht Manor?

Excerpt:

“I hear what you are saying and acknowledge it. But Mr. Ravenswood, you have to understand,” Baron Albrecht said as he sipped at his coffee. “I had almost exhausted all my avenues when I hit upon your name. I’m sorry it’s such short notice, but short notice it is, and I feel it’s my privilege to get a clear understanding of what I’ve purchased.”

“You have acquired my services. Services, I might add, which are as unique as they are intangible. Elsa might be beyond my efforts already. But only time will tell if I can change the course of this hex.”

“I, sir, do not waste capital on anything of poor quality,” Baron Albrecht stated in a strong, firm voice. “Your tone smacks of defeat, and you have yet to engage the enemy!”

“I don’t believe in crowing about my success before I start, that’s all!”

“I see Noah is being his usual charming self.” Sarah’s voice interrupted the discussion that was quickly degenerating into an argument.

“Good morning, Sarah,” Noah said with a heavy sigh, one that sounded distinctly like “about time.” “Baron Albrecht, may I introduce my assistant Dr. Sarah Bookings? Sarah has a Doctorate from Cleveland State in Business and a Bachelor’s Degree in Religion, particularly in the field of Occult studies. Sarah, this is Baron Markus Albrecht, our host and employer.”

“Good morning, Baron,” Sarah said, with a tiny hint of a blush.
