Christie Kelley in the Spotlight

Christie Kelley was born and raised in upstate New York. After seventeen years working for financial institutions in software development, she took a leap of faith and started her first book. Seven years later, EVERY NIGHT I’M YOURS was bought by Zebra books.

She now lives in Maryland with her husband and two future romance heroes. Come visit her on the web at http://www.christiekelley.com/.

Every Time We Kiss

GUILT KEPT THEM APART
It’s been five years since Lady Jennette Selby’s fiancé died. Each courting season since has been filled with suitors eager to win her affection. But Jennette’s guilt has prompted her to swear off marriage. For her secrets are as dark as she is beautiful, and the accidental death of her fiancé was tainted by a forbidden attraction…

PASSION BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER
Matthew Harris, the new earl of Blackburn, has been scorned by the ton for unintentionally killing Lady Jennette’s fiancé. Forced to sell his estates and abandon his tenants if he does not marry a wealthy, respectable woman, Matthew turns to Lady Jennette to help him find a suitable wife. But sharing such close quarters only re-ignites an all-consuming desire neither can resist–even as every shadow of the past threatens to tear them apart….

Hey Christie! Great to see you here. Swinging by from the Romance Bandits to say hello, and hey to the Dark Divas! This is in my bag--next to be read. I LOVED Every Night I'm Yours. I particularly like that your set-ups--the way you throw your hero and heroine together--are almost always unique. That's a bit difficult to find with historicals these days, as there are just so darn many out there. This one looks like it's not going to disappoint in the setup. How do you come up with unique plot twists like this? Is that something you do naturally, or do you work at that particular point?

Thanks for stopping by my bandita buddy. And thank for the compliment about throwing my hero and heroine around. Oops, I mean throwing them together :)

I think my critique partners would tell you the plot twists come naturally to me as the story develops. I don't plot my books out too much. It takes all the fun out of it.

Yeah, we do like to torture, don't we? Not sure what that says about writers as a group. I admit that I had to learn to do this. I used to want to be nice to them. Imagine!

No, we can't be nice to our heros and heroines. It just isn't allowed!

Christie, this sounds like such a fabulous book!! I can't wait to read it.

What is your favorite part of being a writer? Your least favorite?

Hi Christie!
Another Bandita swinging by to say HI! And Hi to the Dark Divas!

OOO! Torturing characters, I do think we Banditas LURVE to do just that. :-) After all, they need to EARN their HEA.

I too thoroughly enjoyed Every Night I'm Yours and am looking forward to Every Time We Kiss! WTG, Bandita!

Hi Trish, thanks for stopping by!

Hi Tawny! My favorite part about being a writer is writing the story. The hardest part is writing the proposal because I'm much more of a pantser :)

Hey, Christie! I have Every Time We Kiss in my TBR pile and I can't wait to dive into this story *g*

As a take-off of Tawny's questions: What's the hardest part about writing historicals? What's your favorite part about the genre?

Christie, congratulations on the release of EVERY TIME WE KISS! I'm sure it's flying off the shelves. Swinging by from the Bandits to cheer you on in your aim to torture your characters! Bwahahahahahaha! What are you working on now?

Christie, you know I love this book! You did such a great job of using secrets and honor in the conflict. They really are tormented, with guilt also playing a role. People really need to read this book, so I won't spoil it.

Thanks, Beth! The hardest part about writing historicals is getting the facts right. There is so much conflicting information. For my 3rd book, now titled, Something Scandalous, I wrote a great scene about how a young woman was presented to the queen and the type of dress she would have worn. A week ago someone on of the rearch loops said this was all wrong. Really? Because I had three sources that said it was right. It drives me a little nutty!
